Fuel Guage Problems

Any one got fuel gauge problems ?



Mine runs out of gas at 1/4 full !



Will this be one of the 2 sender units thingies in the tank under the back seat ?



The one on its own is cheap but the one on the pump is not !

Does anyone know how to test them ?



And once i hope i've fixed it how i test it ? I don't won't to run out yet again, its not supposed to do it any good.



Also is it dodgy tinkering around i don't want to blow the whole car and me up !

Look in the Bentley manual if you have one. I dont have mine here but I remember reading something about the signal varies with the voltage output. You will probably need yourself a multimeter and a little electical knowledge for this one.

Yes, the signal varies with the voltage level, but I don't remember what the range is...



Your car has prob stored a fault in the insturment clusters control modue by now.. if you could get your hands on that, you might be able to figure out whats going on easier.

I noticed my LOW FUEL light comes on a little more than a gallon too soon.



The manual says it should come on with approx 2 gallons left but mine comes on with about 3.5 gallons left.



I wonder if this is a similar issue?????

My car varies when it wants to show me the light... I wouldn't worry about it. You can also use the range fucntion on your obc, its pretty accurate....

While we are on this fuel guage subject...my mom owns a 330i and her guage sometimes just moves around randomly. I have seen it going back and forth, and once it was readin only 1/4 left and suddenly jumped to 3/4 left. STRANGE!

Now thats funky. My 320 does that.. if I hit the side of the dashboard Ill gain 1/2 tank :P

I dunno... guesswork? The low gas warrning light doens't come on now until its past E :P
