No problem. No need to apologize. Thanks for helping me out. I guess the conclusion would be to upgrade the aftermarker HU first. Since right now, I want to save up for some ZKW headlights, I will probably just get some cheaper aftermarket 6x9's (some mb quarts or something) along with the 6x9 adaptor and have the same sound quality as the HK (but for cheaper). When I upgrade the HU, then I'll hear a noticable difference. One more question, what HU is compatibe with the 6 cd changer than I have in the trunk? Is it true that alpine's are compatible?

    Thanks alot

There you go, you're on the right track. The cheaper aftermarket 6x9's will surely accommodate better sound quality than the stock HK's, and produce equal amounts of sound quality than more expensive 6x9's since you will be sticking with the stock amp.

As for HU's. It will depend on which brand CD changer you have. If you have an Alpine CD changer, then it will be compatible with an aftermarket Alpine. If you happen to have the Pioneer CD Changer, then go with a Pioneer HU. 'Peripheral' is among many other companies that provide a cable to make this possible.

Thanks for all your help. You helped clarify some doubts that I had.

      Good luck

My father put a 12" JL IB Woofer in his 740iL and it sounds really nice. NOt too much bass, but since its a 12 it gets most of the deep bass. No box need, hence the IB, and a JL 250/1 runs it. It sounds great and takes up minimal trunk space. I love JL subs, and I will never stop buying them, but the JL IB Woofers are the only IB woofer i have heard so I dont know how they compare. I know they are reasonabley priced, and they sounds great, if your just looking for a lil more bass. check out

        anyways, hope this helps

I agree with you 100% on that one with the JL subs. Always completely satisfied with the sound quality. I always seem to have JL subs in every system I have ever had.

Right now in my M3 I have 2 JL 10" W3's with 1 JL 500/1 and 1 JL 300/2 amps. and ADS mids in the kick's also ADS tweeters in the stock locations. Kenwood Excelon deck, also one of my favorites. The whole system done in black & yellow vinal, so clean, so beautiful. I wish I had a digital camera.

If I ever sold this system it could only go to another yellow BMW.

Just get a nice set of speakers, like MB Quart. Screw the weight of subs, these will amaze you!

I will look into this, thanks. I guess I was wondering if anyone had success with a larger full range speaker rather than a sub. I don't like the Boomy sound I hear from other cars at stoplights.

I just installed 6x9's into a boat a few weaks ago. They where 3 way infinitys and they actually hit pretty good. There where 6 of them being run off of a 4 channel 400 watt amp.
