    Great Texas Roads???

I live in Dallas, Tx. (is there another one?) I moved hrer from the Bay area of San Francisco and before that Santa Barbara. Anyone from these areas will know of of what I speak when I say I'm looking for a drivers road. (Hwy 33 out of Ojai, or hwy One to Stinson and up and over mount Tam) I know it's flatter than the 6th grade pep squad around here, so I'm not asking for hills, but maybe a country road with some turns in it. I hear people around here bragging about how you can go straight for miles, yee haw, that's great if you wan to get your Ford dually up to top speed but I've got an M3. I want to turn. If anyone knows of some good roads around the Dallas area I would be forever greatful, and if anyone wants to go for a run let me know. :bugeye:

Dallas has no good roads. For good driving roads you are going to have to go to Austin.

Austin has awesome stuff, but I never was able to find anything interesting in Houston because of the same flat and boring problem.

Yea, that's pretty much what I thought about Dallas area roads, I've heard good things about the hill country around austin, but haven't checked them out yet. Gonna go see Wilco at the end of the month down there, gonna have to take a day for myself (wife's not into speed) to tear it up.

Hi guys, Im from Irving (just outside Dallas) and I know of plenty of little roads we could go tear up! I was in Ft Worth the other day visiting a friend and he took me to an abandoned service road. Its awesome, long straight and perfect to do speed tests on. Beauty is, theres no trouble from cops. If its bends you seek, I shall locate them for you...

I lived In Santa Barbara from 89 to 94 while attending College, some of the best years of my life. It was motorcycles rather than cars back then (cheaper and faster), but lots of good roads. HWY 33, also known as Mancopa hwy gets good a few miles NW of Ojai. From Santa Barbara take the 150 past Lake Casitas (a great little stint in it's own right) It goes up into the mountains Past Ojala, and Wheeler Springs. Once you hit Lockwood Valley Road it turns a little boring so you can turn around and do it again, or keep going, turn west of 166 and wind up in Santa Maria. The best stretch of 33 is generally deserted during the week. weekends in the summer you will see testing teams from various auto and motorcycle manufacturers. I remember seeeing the Toyota MR2 (the first one) being tested there in 1990. Funny how cool it looked then and how sad they look now. If you live anywhere near Californias central coast you owe it to your self to hit this road, probably one of the best I've ever driven.

here is a link to yahoo map of the area
