    Different fuses with HID?

Hi guys, I posted this inside a different thread before but now I'm going to ask directly.

I've been blowing fuses like a hooker. Hmm...sorry, the analogy seemed better in my head.

Regardless, these things blow A LOT. It all seems to be random luck though. I was using 7.5 Amp fuses from BMW, then those and my spares blew, so I picked up some shitty ones from Autozone, but those would blow as soon as I fired the lights up. So, I went to Advanced Auto Parts down the street desparately, and those fuses hold up. One of them lasted about 3 weeks of use. My current one has lasted about 2 weeks. The BMW fuse seems to last longest of all, but the point is that these babies are delicate. Sometimes even the "better" fuses will only last like 3-4 times.

So, does anyone have any suggestions?

I think 97BLK suggested using 10 Amp fuses before, but I'm worried I'd draw too much current or something and fry my lights. Thoughts?

I might end up using the 10 Amp ones.

Try the 10 amp, I think thats whats in mine. Haven't had one problem.

      I think i'm using 15a fuses, but try a 10a first.

Holy crap! 15A...you're not worried at all about something dying?

        That seems really high.

Yep, 15amps is what I use as well. No problems so far (in fact, they state that in the install directions I've read). I also have HIDs in my fogs.

The stock Euros use a 15a fuse...

And yeah, if they're all blowing, it's not a quality issue, rather an amperage one...

Yes, they are blowing because your system is trying to draw more than 7.5 amps of current. The wires can probably handle up to 20 amps without a problem. Actually, if you look at the wires coming out the fusebox on a 5 amp circuit vs. a 30 amp circuit, they may even be the same gauge wire.

Don't worry about the extra size fuse, just put a 10 amp in there and if that blows go for a 15. You will be fine.

Okay, that's enough people convincing me now. lol.

Thanks guys, I'll get some 10Amp ones!

By the way Clumpy Mold...HID FOGS!!! Man, that's overkill, though it looks pretty hot.

The only reason I haven't gotten the hids in the fogs yet is because when you flash your highbeams at people, or use the highbeams for that matter, the fog lamps are supposed to turn off, and unless you changed wiring or whatnot, turning HID systems on/off rapidly is bad for the componets....

Haha, thanks. I wasn't planning on it but ended up with two HID kits (long story) so I just tried it. Loved the matching look so I just kept it. I'm looking to get some bixenons soon since I can't stand flashing someone and them seeing those ugly yellow bulbs. I always wonder if it's really "bright" compared to my low beams.

Sirius: good point. Never thought about that. I'll double check to see if it's an issue. I don't flash that much though. Maybe like 2-3 times a month.
