    Help me Decide!!

I need some input on choosing a M3. Here are the choices

    a) 1997 Cosmos Black/Black 68,000 miles. With the following mods:

    DINAN Supercharger

    Dinan Chip

    Dinan Stage III suspension

    Tri-Flow full exhaust system

    Turner Flywheel/Clutch kit

    BBS Wheels

Needs 02 Sensors, seat belt sensor. Has rock chips on front end that would require painting for my taste.

    b) 1999 Esortil Blue/Silver interior 37,000 miles. No mods

Interior is kinda rough. Dirty. Center counsel is broke where someone had posssible CD changer. Kick plates missing due to added speakers. No spare. Glove box missing latch. Cannot open and does not line up.

Price of the two are within 1,000 of each other. The 99 more expensive. Which would you choose.

    Thanks.

    :hmm:

one more thing. 99 has aftermarket rims and tires that make the car look very sharp.

Clear call. If you're going to mod it, get the done one. If not, clean up the dowdy one. Better yet forget em both and get a clean stocker well cared for, (like Mine!)

The price is really good on both of them 20k and 21k.

More stinging! You know my 97 3/4a is on the block for 14kish w/77k on it...? I'll put a blower on it for 21k if you'd like...!

Your car looks nice. I am looking for a 5spd coupe though. I also noticed that the 4dr are going for less than the coupes. the 20k for the modded version may seem high, but it does have 15k worth of mods.

I would lean towards the 99 due to the lower mileage. Sure the 97 has some nice mods, but that also means that the car was most likely driven harder. However, I don't like the fact that the 99's interior was not well taken care of. This is easy maintenance and if it wasn't done, then were the oil changes etc. performed timely? Can you access service records for both cars? I wouldn't limit myself to these two options, keep looking on cars.com, autotrader, etc. and be willing to travel and you will find a nice M. If one of these two work out, then more power to you...

The mileage initially attracted me to the 99 along with the price. If I only want to pay around 20, my options become limited.

The 99 scared me a little because of the interior condition. It wasn't just the seats, but the speaker mods, and the glove box being broke. The car had alot of stereo work done and someone ripped it all out. They did not put it back together nicely.

I guess I am leaning toward the 97. I am having a BMW dealer check it out on Monday.

Also, one down side to the 97 is that I can't see it there in person.

Tough choice the 99 does have less miles but, from how u described it doesn't sound like the person really took that great care of it. The 97 needs no mods it has it all plus if must fly with the supercharger and all. Good idea having the 97 checked out an d take the 2 for test drives. The mileage is not that high i'd go for the 97 if it checks out alright.

Are there any major differences between a 99 and a 97?

99's have a much cooler steering wheel, which is obviously negligible.

I'd worry that the 99 had 38k rough miles because of how they treated the interior, but I'd still probably get it.

There's something to be said for owning the last possible year of the e36. If people continue to love the e36, it's probably good to own the last ones.

I think that Inspection II is coming up at 40k though right? Ask the dealer because that's a 600 dollar expense.

No one has really stated too much about the mods on the 97. They were done when the car had 37k miles. Are the mods on this car not that big of a deal?
