Dam I love this car. but...

Hey guys, I just got my M3 from South Florida and I LOVE it! I had not driven one at relatively high speeds and had heard how well they handle, but dam I am very impressed. Then again, I used to have a 5.0 stang

anyhow, as I am driving up FL turnpike, my "check control" light comes on, and so I see that on my OBC it is flashing "Brake Light Circuit" or something to that effect. I checked the brake lights and they appear to be fine. In the previous owners records I noticed the similar event occured, and they replaced the brake light switch but apparently it didnt fix the problem.

I've also emailed the previous owner, but wanted to know if any of you guys heard of this happening and if there is a fix for it?

    thanks in advance.

Yeah, this is very common. Run a search. You can either a) ignore it or b) buy a 35 dollar part and replace it.

You'll find more and better details with the search.

I would replace it, after you put up long enough with that message, the brake lights are likely to just fail.

Its the brake light switch connected to the brake pedal. Its a cheap part, easy to install, just a PITA to do.

yeah...it WILL fail eventually aparently, but I think that the problem will start happening more frequently, so that is your cue to get it done. It has happened on my car a total of about 5 times in the almost year of ownership now, so I'm not sweating it YET.

it happened on my 325 all the time... my records show that before the bmw m3 was sold to me that it was replaced.

          lucky me.

god that Break Light Circuit thing is sooo goddamn annoying. Ive tried replacing the bulbs to see if that will make it go away, and it didnt. I swear i took my 328is to the BMW dealership twice to have it taken care of and it always came back a month later. I still have the same problem with my M3. I usually just turn the car off then back on and it goes away for a while...haha

Its not the bulbs. Its the switch thats connected to the brake pedal up under the dash thats wearing out. Your OBC can detect that and tells you its going to fail soon, and that you won't have brake lamps anymore till you replace it.
