After reading a thread about a tire place that jacked a guys M3 on the wrong points and caused damage to the bottom of his car I've been a little concerned about having new tires put on. Scratching rims is another problem I've heard of. Are there places to avoid? Any you would recommend? Thanks

Recommended places to get tires

I try to do as much to my car myself as possible. At the Auto hobby shop I goto I tried a couple different types of lifts so I could get the tires off, but none of them could hit all four jack points at once. This got me thinking that a cheaper tire place might have the same problem and concave the bottom of my car. I know it's a little picky, but I'd much rather error on the side of caution.

I think I would pay to have someone you trust do the install. I had a Tire Rack approved installer put S03's on my wheels and they scratched one of the rears. They were a bread and butter Goodyear shop, that mostly had Tauruses on their lifts. The M3 was exotica to them. I have heard the M3 rim is a very difficult one to remove the tire from. The S03's are also reputed to be a bear to get on and off. Their machine stalled repeatedly in an effort to get the new S03 over the lip of the rim. They also used a gorilla impact gun on the lugs, which I had a great deal of difficulty removing. The people were pleasant and the washroom was clean, but I will only deal with a high end tire place or the dealer next time.

The rims Kupolo has on his ride, are one of the hardest rims to dis-mount that BMW has. Thoes and the M-roadsters stock rims are a major PITA. We have had up to four techs dismounting tires from thoes rims.
Has something to do with that extra large lip they got on the inside of the rim.
The rears are the hardest.

I took my Contours to a local shop here and they said that I ripped them off by only paying their basic mounting fee.
I didn't realize it was so hard to deal with our rims and tires.
As a side note, if you buy tires from tirerack.com, make sure to sign up for goldpoints.com and buy your tires through there online. You'll get lots of goldpoints which will get you free stuff at TGI Fridays.
Trust me, it's worth it. A set of tires buys you like 8 appetizers for free or something. It's nuts.

I have a similar story to Astan100. I usually take my tires to Tire Kingdom. I was paying only $11 per tire for mounting and balancing (pretty cheap). Anyways, it seems that the mechanic mounting my tire realized this and personally came inside the waiting area and told me (in a bad tone) that I must have known somebody in the office to get a tired mounted for that price. I asked him why it was any of his business. He just turned around and walked away.
Later that same night, while driving, I heard a couple of really loud bangs by my door. I pulled over and realized that the quarterpanel black trim peace had ripped off. I found it down the road and picked it up. A good four inches of it was torn off and my door was all dinged and scratched. I'm sure the mechanic accidentally or on-purpose hit it while he was mounting the tire.
I think you can notice the broken trim piece in my sig. The new piece costs $60 at the dealer and like $50 a bavauto.com. Anybody know of any cheaper places? I just bought some new clips and mounted it on agaian. Now I have a broken quaterpanel piece and a non-matching rim ( I broke it a while back). What's next. Gotta spend some money.
