E36 gas mileage, please tell me

Hey everyone, i was just wondering what kind of gas mileage you got on the highway and city. I was just thinkin about it and wanted to know what everyone got because I will be buying one soon and I just want to know what to expect, cause now i drive an expedition and i get 10 mpg so i just want to see how what i will be getting. thanks for any in put. :takecover

if your used to 10 MPG in your expedition.. then the M3 will seem like a gas saver Lol... I live in So Cal.. so driving on the highway to and from work is basically like driving on city (aka stop and go on the freeway)...

I can't stand the heat and my A/C probably kills some mileage.. but oh well.. as long as I'm comfortable... when you come out of your A/C'd house, have A/C at work.. its just not right sitting in the heat in the car.. so I use the A/C a lot.. I have the A/C/auto Climate control on 90% of the time.. I don't really like the heat or opening the windows and smelling the smog or the side exiting trucks tail pipes so my mileage is probably pretty low but I don't care.. I like to drive hard and be comfy...I get between 16-20 MPG depending on how I drive and traffic...

HAHA i know what you mean, i live in Orange so i can relate with the traffic, i figured thats about what i could get, but im used to 10 mpg so im sure an M3 would be way better on gas. thanks for the input

        I've gotten:

true highway 24-26 mpg (road trips)

general around town w/some freeway 19-21 mpg

        city driving 14-17 mpg

this is with a semi heavy foot...

I live in a land of nothing but hills, and I manage to pull 16 out of it all city. To give you a comparison, I only got 18 in my prelude around here.

All highway x-country roadtrip I could avg. 28 if I'm going easy on her.

I have never reset my OBC "Consumption1". It is stuck on 23.5 mpg.

I reset the "Consumption2" everytime I refil the tank. It fluctuates between 18 and 27 depending on what kind of driving I'm doing. I guess it always averages out to 23.5

The computer says I'm averaging 25.5mpg. I'm pretty happy with that since I like to feel the power at least once every time I drive.

man it sounds like you all get pretty good gas mileage compared to the 10 mpg i get in my Ford. Hopefully it wont be too long before i sell my ford and will be driving an E36 M3 like the rest of you and get decent gas mileage. Thanks i appreciate all of your inputs and please keep em coming. thanks again  :bugeye:

hey undertow, i just sold my 5.0 stang (~12 mpg) and although i miss gobs of torque at times, you will love the smooth quiet ride of an m3.

its funny, but it feels like the m3 is quite a gas saver to me. then again, ive never driven anything with less than 8 cylinders before.

i just got my silver 97 m3 and got a tru highway mpg of about 25 or so, and that was doing 80-90 mph. I believe I ended up getting 420 miles to the tank, 98% highway miles, and i think the tank is 17 gallons.

so far i have noticed a city mpg of about 18-20, all depends how often you get on it.

good luck, and take your time finding the right m3.
