    My Wheels and Spacer Problem

    Hi Everyone,

I have a '95 M3 and 18" M Parallel Replica's from RimPro. I had an issue when I first bought the wheels, and that issue was that the rim would rub against the caliper making this clicking noise and not to mention doing damage to the wheel and caliper. This was only an issue in the front.

I filed down the front wheels and sure enough the noise and the rubbing went away. I just recently installed new rotors and pads and sure enough the clicking and the rubbing started up again. So I decided to pick up some H&R 5mm spacers with 35mm bolts.

My problem is that when I put the spacer on the hub, the wheel doesn't fit like it used to. It keeps sliding off the hub. Which makes me think of a few questions:

    1. Even though the wheel wouldn't rest on the hub, is it safe to bolt it on and not worry about the safety issue? -I have doubts with this b/c of the wheel not being secured on the hub.

    2. I've heard about hub-extenders. What are they and where can I get them from?

Again, my main concern is driving on wheels that aren't securely resting on the hubs. If anyone has used spacers on their wheels, would you mind letting me know what you did to solve this problem (if you even had this problem).

Thanks guys and here are some pictures to better describe my point.

either use the alignment pin in the tool kit or use a bigger hubcentric spacer.

can you grind down the caliper enough to clear the wheel without spacers? the calipers are pretty heavy and you could probably take a little bit off.

if you do have to use spacers, yes it's a real pain when putting the wheels on or taking them off but as long as you are careful about it, the wheel will line up correctly with the hub.

Beware of using spacers because I once considered them and was told it was like opening up a can of worms allignment/balance. If you do decide to use them call BMP or someone familiar with them because spacers really play with the car's handling.
