    Fuel gauge acting odd.

I filled up w/ gas today and didnt notice anything wrong w/ my gauge at the time. When I got in the car later the gauge never moved it just stayed all the way to the empty side w/ the light on even though the tank was full. After driving for awhile it fixed itself and jumped to the full side, but now it is alternating between the extreme left and extreme right, wtf?? could it just be a loose connection. If so where do I find this? under the dash somewhere?

Also I am getting my Sched 2 service real soon , should I ask to replace my 02 sensors and timing chain just for good measure, I dont think they have ever been changed and I have 75K miles. Thanks for the help. Anyone know how much the 02 sensors and timing chain cost?

Sounds like the common problem with the fuel gauge sending unit(s) going out. I had mine replaced under warranty about a year ago. I was having the exact same fuel gauge symptoms.

Up here in Canada we had issues with Shell fuel. They had an additive that affected the contacts. My gauge bounced backed and forth for weeks...a news article came out against Shell...I stopped using their fuel and the gauge cleared up. They even had a claims division set up to settle damaged fuel gauge sending units. Could be something like that.

I had similar crazy fuel guage probs right after i bought my car. I just chalked it up to one of those small things I would have to get fixed on a used car. I ignored it for a while, using my mileage to remind me to fill up and forgot about it. I left my dope lights on overnight once and it killed my battery, totally dead. I threw a battery charger on it and started it up. My stereo was dead, (needed the code no biggie) but some how my gas guage was fixed. Something must have reset somewhere. It's been 5-6 months and all is well in gas guage land.

Thanks guys, the gauge seemed to have fixed it self, yeah!! I love when things fix themselves, aint M3's great? If the car could cook good food I would marry her. Any thoughts on if I should replace my 02 sensors and timing chain on my upcoming Sched 2?

My gauge did that to me the first day i had it. I just went home knowing I filled the tank and turned it off then came back in like 5 mins turned it on and it was fine. never happen to me again.
