That's sort of true, some early verts came with a "plate" instead of the skeletonized brace used on the M3 LTW and later verts.

Thanks, I knew i've seen 2 types somewhere.

As for stiffening up, I noticed BIG improvement in corner turn-in with simultaneous addition of the X-brace & Dinan front strut tower brace in my '97 M3/4 sedan. Got the Dinan stageII suspension early on; later their brake-cooling kit. I noticed NO DIFFERENCE with addition of the Dinan rear strut tower brace, though I kept it anyway. I'm considering adding the SPARCO harness bar that connects the "B"-pillars.

I put 16-30 track days annually on this car since becoming 2nd owner 4 years ago at 13K miles (83K now). I find it scarey-fast with a stock engine. I wail on it and need regularly replace only engine oil/filter, brake fluid/Cool Willy pads, BMW Euro rotors, rear shock upper bushings and tires. Recommend anyone attend a few high-performance driving schools before spending $ on car modifications. Have safe fun!
