Does my 99 M3 (s52) have the active muffler flap? (and one other emmisions question)

I was looking in my bentley manual and it was showing the active muffler/silencer system that closes one side of the exaust outlet to quiet operation under 2500rpm. It shows it for the m52 so I was wondering if that was something shared with our S52's.

At idle I can feel exaust comming out of both outlets so if I do have one it dosent work.

I wouldent think that our cars were supposed to have one but It was just a quick question I was interested in finding out about.

Also does anyone know where I can find information about all the emmisions controls for my car and how they work??

The bently manual dosent really talk about that at all. And Im really interested in finding this all out.

Like how the purge valve works.

And about that interesting evaporation canister unit in the spare tire well.

What that hissing release sound is after I shut my car off etc.

Anything on that would be great.

    Thanks

Our cars don't have those. I think they started that flap thing on the E46 3-Series.

The E36's do have them. The flap is used to keep the exhaust noise down, and for emissions. The flap opens up under higher engine revs.

The M3 being a preformace car, does not have this feature.

If you look on any other e36 with the factory exhaust, 323/325/328, they'll have the flap. When you're looking at the back of the car, look at the right tube, it has the unit.

The purge valves is used to maintain a proper pressure level in the fule system. The charcol canister is used to contain any gasoline fumes that may leak out of the fuel system. The aux air pump is used on a cold start up to inject fresh air directly into the exhaust system to maintain proper emission levels until the cats warm up.

I remember reading the technical info about that from TIS. Maybe I can find it again. It was kinda intresting.
