What is the best way to clean the rims?

Yeah... I haven't cleaned my rims for quite sometime... and the break dust build up is too much to get through... I need something stronger. What can I use?

this may not be very safe but it did it to my last car's rims. In areas where brake dust is too stubborn, WD40 seems to get it off. 3M adhesive remover also gets almost anything off w/out removing paint finish or clear coat. Proceed w/ caution tho, I guess. Some people get to crazy and buff the surface like there's no tomorrow. WD40 should do the trick I think.

Well I dont have my M yet, (friday is the day) but on my altima I use Eagle One "Neva Dull" cleaner. Its not a spray and wash type of rim cleaner. You have to actually rub this on the rim and then buff off. It was recommended by a import detailer because of all the salt and crap that built up from the winter. It works great with polished, chrome, and stainless...Get it at autozone, pepboys, for around $8.. Cheers! :bugeye:

I'm sure my method isn't the safest either, but I use those little scrubber pads (the one's that are a sponge on one side, and a course non-metal on the other side)

It takes anything off... just be gentle. I use them for just about everything around the house... smooth top stove, stainless steel, etc.

I don't think I'd use them if my wheels had a really nice finish - but right now brake dust is as close to powder coating as I'm getting : )

simple green seems to work for me - dunno if it has a long term negative effect tho' once the wheels are clean - I coat it with a thin layer of wax; it seems to help prevent build-up
