3.0 I6 pinging sound when idle...

hey fellow m3 drivers,



my m3 engine started making this ping/ping/ping/ping noise while idling. going to get the spark plugs replaced, racingking.net has an awasome price for bosch plugs.



wondering if you guyz know of anything else that might need replacement if this doesn't work.



engines got 119k and is still silky smoooooth :thumbsup:

im using 91 octane usually from unocal 76 gas stations...

is it a pinging or more of a knocking??..kinda of diesel sounding at idle??..cause that's what mine is sounding like at idle(sounds like sh*t) and i dont know whats causing it.

All M3's sound like garbage when they FIRST start up, but if it persists after the first 30secs-1 min you might have a problem.

Check your oil. Cars like to tick when they get low on oil.

I make sure oil level is always to the top. And the knocking still continues to knock. Sounds kinda like a diesel engine.

Maybe your lifters are outa wack then.

i use castrol synthetic blend oil and after oil change i put about 7.0 quarts. what kind of oil do you all use???



yes its more of a knocking sound.

danm don't you hate that noise especially when your warming it up or at a stop sign/light. :banghead:



how long have you had the noise / mines been for a month now. i'm changing the spark plugs that are coming in the mail. im also thinking of going pure synthetic instead of blend. please tell me if you can figuire out how to rid of it. and i'll do the same... :hmm:
