CF Hood on Cosmos...Anyone done it?

    :help:

If so, how does it look? I'm thinking for about the same $ it would cost me to repaint my hood, maybe less, I could get a black CF hood. I'm wondering how it would look with a Cosmos car?

I don't like the light color car/dark CF hood look, but I thought on a black car it might look OK. Does it? Or does it just look stupid because the blacks don't match?

Any pictures if someone has done this already would be great!

    Thanks,

    FLi

It really looks good on Cosmos. I am with you in that I dont like CF hoods on lighter cars..but on black it isnt so bad.

Here is a thread with a cosmos sporting a CF hood:

I have a CF hood on my cosmos, http://mkg.planetdns.net/gallery/M3

The pictures don't show it well because of the sunlight unless you maximize the picture size by clicking on it (click on thumbnail to get to medium picture, click on that picture for max size)

Richard- Thanks for the link to the BF.com post. That car looks good all the way around. I could hardly tell a CF hood was on it, until I got to the close up pics. It is subtly different, which is the approach I take on all my car modifications.

Norlin - You were right, the lighting does make the hood look wacky in your pics. I was able to get past that and it looks good on your car, too!

I think I will go for it. I like the idea of just bolting it up and going. And no more stone chips  !!

I think you have to modify your hood struts to make it work effectively. (the stock struts are meant to left the heavy stock hood not the feather-light CF hoods.

I however, dont know what needs to be done..I have only heard there needs to be something done. (might post another thread asking about that).

Never thought of that. Thanks for the tip! I'm sure you could find hood struts that are the same size and mount the same, but have less force.

I haven't found struts with low enough pressure for my CF hood -

not sure what the E36 hood weigh, but prolly close. I still have

to try salvage yards for used/worn struts that would have less

pressure. i'm using the oldskool hood prop action for now. :-(

As far as the hood struts go, why don't you just take one of them off? Maybe that'll work, check it out. C/F hood on cosmos looks sweet!

The hood struts make the CF hood bow up. I took mine off and use a prop rod, sure it's not as slick, but it doesn't seem to bother me any...

If the struts are spring loaded you could probably heat the springs to decrease their spring strength.... just an idea
