Try a 13mm wrench instead to hold it....

The air filter is burried under the dashboard. You access it from the passenger side on american cars.

You can do it without having to remove the glove box, although that helps. You you do have to remove the lower cover that goes around the feet air vents.

If you never use the A/C, does the cabin filter really come into play? So in other words, is just plain vent air run through that filter?

I believe anything that is comming through your air vents is comming through that cabin filter. So any time the climate control unit is on, air is being pulled through the filter.

As a matter of fact I should probably think about doing mine soon!!

Sirius, Im very interested in figuring out how to change the filter without removing the glove box. It seemed like it would be impossible without taking all of that stuff out of the way. If you can post anymore about how to do that, that would be awsome.

I'll have to get under there and look again, my friend did it last time for me when we were installing stero stuff, so the glove box was out, but this was last year and I am due for a change anyhow.

its pita but its worth it.. my car dont stink anymore... it sits in the back of the center console. you have to get the pass side underpanel out and then it helps to have the glove box out. i followed the inst on the logun site. should have taken pix... sorry

It's fairly easy to remove the old filter, but I found it very difficult to get the new one to slide in easily, since it sorta breaks into 3 sections. The key is to be patient and not to force it (which comes easily as your frustration grows). The fact that you are just feeling around back there and can't really see what your doing makes the process somewhat arduous, but it is easily doable for even a non mechanically inclined individual...

Yeah, its a major PITA in our cars... the E46's is much better. Right under the hood in front of the windshield.. takes about 10 seconds to change it out heh.

just a piece of advice...when you do get to the cabin micro-filter (w/ or w/out removing the glovebox)...you'll find that the filter slides in, but needs a nudge towards you. If you just slide the filter in w/out nudging it towards yourself into the ducting, you'll have trouble locking in the filter chamber door. and yes...pain in the A$$, but well worth it. Allergy problems in the car are gone!!
