    Raced a 99 Mustang Cobra

The 1999 Mustang Cobra has 320 horse power (with all the recalls done).

It was sitting at the local ford dealer, which is a big svt dealer and is getting one of the new GTs (GT40) that is coming out. I took it for a night... I usually test drive everything I can get my hands on. The damn thing had power. But I didn't think it had more than my car at first. Then I started driving some more and the more I beat it the harder it pushed. The damn thing didn't handle well to me, the m3 driver, go figure. And that was the reason I gave the dealer when I took it back.

So a guy that actually worked at the dealer took it for a weekend. All the car guys are hanging out in the lot and I stop there a lot, and race alot... I'm a whore for racing...

There is a black mustang cobra. He told me he has it from the ford dealer, and so I found out from talking to him it was the same one I had. I asked him to race. I told him I wanted to see how well I'd do, and I told him I didn't think I was going to win, but I'd get him off the line. He didn't believe me.

1st run. We lined up and counted to 3... it was a 1,2,go thing. And I pulled ahead at first and just kept going. He was sorely disappointed, he said it was because of his launch. All he did was spin the tires... so did I (which sucked). So he challenged me again.

2nd run. We lined up again. I was revved up to about 3 grand. Same thing. Except he got the nice launch and I had to feather my throttle to get traction. I got my traction and pulled in front and just kept going.

After it was all said and done I beat him twice. Once me with the great start and once him with it. I felt so proud of my car. And I surprised the crap out of everyone who saw. The driver of the mustang, after that had a new found respect for my car... and said "now there is no way in hell I'm buying this car"

good kill. you would think the big V8 would take a 6cyl - pretty sweet.

this guy @ my work keeps telling me that his 97GT would turn the M into breakfast and eat it, i am sending him this thread.

99 cobra's are quick too, my buddy had one that ran 13.4 on 18" street tires. It had intake, pulleys, mid-pipe, cat-back...aaaand thats all. They usually run about 13.8 stock. M3's cant touch the SOUND of a 4.6L DOHC V8 though...sorry... I'm still trying to find an exhaust for my M that doesnt sound ricey...Active Autowerke's Gen III cat-back is the best so far, but damn does it cost a pretty penny!

Very nice kill! I take it you got your manifold issues worked out? With less than $3,000 in mods, those cobras can be made very very fast. They take really well to breathing mods.

I'm not lookin for too loud, I think I'll end up going with AA. I may get a custom exhaust built up at an exhaust shop around here, just keep the stock piping, throw on a Magnaflow Bullet muffler, and stock looking tips on it, and see how it sounds. It would drop like 20lbs off the muffler! If it sounds crappy, it'll be easy to get some money back for it and then get an AA. Thanks for the suggestion though, i appreciate it.

I agree... personally I don't think there is anything that can get close to that sound. It's so perfect. Its loud and throaty and just sounds like a million bucks.

As to how fast we ended up going I really don't know because both times once I got ahead and he found out he couldn't get me he gave up, atleast thats how it seemed.

My car is running great right now. I'll be racing my buddy in his 02 ws6. He thought my car was quite slow until he ran me the other night. we stopped at a light and his girlfriend said go (it was green lol). And he got the jump and then my car just started pulling through first gear and ahead of his car. Then my shift knob flew off and I missed second gear. :eek2: We ended up going to about 100 mph and I stuck with him pretty good, by about 2 car lengths, before our exit came up. We said goodnight, he seemed incredibly impressed, and he told me we'll have to do this again since I had my mishap. I doubt I'll beat him, but I'll definately earn his respect. So I'll post again how that race goes.

Mustang Cobras are over rated... but with the correct work... they can be fast as hell. I saw a new Cobra 04 in NC where i used to live... had suspension re done by Steeda, a Steeda Supercharger, and huge ass tires, Roll cage, u name it. Running only 10PSI he dynoed at 500RWHP. But het dumped 35K ontop of the 45K he paid for it... hahaha

Needless to say... nice kill my friend... Cobra = SLOBRA

                      *until he beats your ass*
