    More Absurdities at the Stealership

I happened to be in the same town as a BMW dealer today, for military duty, and I decided to order some parts.

To get things started, I stopped by the dealership yesterday and parts and service were closed. The guy at the door said they closed at 6, I looked at my watch, it was 5:35. They guy at the door said they usually quit and go home at 5:30. What the hell is that?

First of all, the plastic surrounds that go around my midrange and tweeters in my doors are cracking and falling off. I thought since I am putting in a whole new system I will just get new surrounds too (since the old ones will probably break when I remove the old speakers)

The guy at the parts counter tells me that I have to order the whole speaker to get the new surrounds. I said "ok" how much could factory speakers cost? He said that'll be $96. I said "wow" thats a lot for a pair of factory speakers. He said that was for only one speaker, they don't come in pairs. I said no thanks and left.

Has anybody else had this problem, of the cracking surrounds? The closest thing on Ebay is a whole new door panel, for around $300 a piece. Where else might I get them? Sirius, any ideas? maybe you can pop open a box of speakers and get me the rings...hehehe

One of my front tweeters (HK sound system) needs it too.

    Any info would be appreciated.

One of my rings broke when I was cleaning the door panal actually heh. I'll research cost. Knowing BMW, and knowing H/K, 96 sounds right for one damn speaker heh. Not sure if the speaker is an assembly with the rings installed and whatnot... and the way thoes things are glued into the door panals... good god.. I am afraid to touch it lol.

I'll get back to ya though.

Even though we hold on average of a million dollars worth of parts in our parts dept, we prob won't have thoes in stock.

I have also lost a 1/4 of one of my surrounds for my HK door speakers and 3 of my 4 door speakers are also blown! Any help for a replacement solution is appreciated for speakers and surrounds. I have heard there is trouble getting a direct replacement for them? :hmm:

Im not sure if this is something you guys might want to do but ive done it on two of my bmw's already. for the money you will pay for the tweeters you can go out and buy a really nice set of infinity componet speaker for the front and the tweeter will fit in perfectly into the stock hole. i did it and the tweeters sound ubbeleivably better than the stock ones just a suggestion for a cheaper upgrade

Do you have a pic of them installed?

I am going with the MB Quart Qline, maybe premium line, depends on how much my 120k service costs...

This is the setup I am going to run> 1" tweeter, 5.25" midbass crossover components. Then I have to add a 4" midrange to the crossover setup.

I know that the midrange hole is only about 2.5 inches across but I am going to stuff the 4" back there and maintain the stock look. It won't affect the sound too much.

In the rear, also going with the 4" midrange for the back window, but I am also adding a 1" tweeter crossover to the rear interior panel, hopefully with the stock speaker grille/surrounds if I can find them. Anyone that doesn't know M3's in and out won't have a clue there is an extra speaker in the panel.

All this will be wired up to a Rockford 4 channel amp pushing 100 watts per channel.

Then I am going to add a sub too.

I guess I will use some aftermarket grilles if I have to, but I think black grilles/surrounds on my white/dovegrey interior will look terrible. It is times like these that i wish I had black/black. and when I have to wash my door panels.

Its easy to find 1" tweeters, but they either come with no grilles or with black ones, and for the few of us with grey interiors, black grilles just aren't appealing

The reason I am looking for new grilles is because my subwoofer blew and now I can hear the rattle and distortion out of my components. Time to get new ones.

If worse comes to worse... I can just rattle can the grilles to match the grey paneling. I have no idea how hard that would be to match them though. is there a color code for interiors like there is for paint??? Sirius???

I don't think theres an offical color code, none that I know of at least. Most of the time when we have interiors repaired, the people match the color eye...

$96 for one of those speakers? you can get soooo much better speakers for that money. stock stereos are never worth the money.
