    Lightbulb Paint

So, I want to paint all my bulbs silver and I bought some spraypaint at home depot.

Some of the paints said do not put on a surface that will get hotter than 200 degrees F and I found one paint that had no stipulations by the same brand (rustoleum).

Is it good to put it on my lights or should I buy the other paints that say do not put on surafaces that will be hotter than 200?

Allen, although the bulbs blink, they do get hot... remember, the filliment burns well above 1000 degrees (white hot), so the surface can get above 200 after use... perhaps get some high temp paint to play it safe? Or spend $30 to get the already silvered bulbs...

Go to autozone or pep boys and get grey, silver or chrome paint for engine's blocks, it should be fine. I think it costs like $5 a can, but I haven't had an issue since I painted my bulbs last summer.

AHA! That's where you pick up this stuff. home depot people looked at me with their 2 teeth and went "wut you talkin' bout? Paintin' lights is sillah"

Actually, it wasn't that bad, but they were confused. My paint had nothing on the bottle about a max temp, but just in case, I'm going to hit up autozone today. Thanks. I know I read that there was some special paint for this.

Pep Boys or any of your car stores should have high temp paint for your brakes or engine. What kind of effect does painting your bulbs have?

buying silver bulbs online seems silly...they just sell you spray painted bulbs...right? I looked at some pics and they look like orange bulbs + spray paint. I'll take my chances on my 5 buck fix.

Anyone out there use blue paint? Should work just the same as silver, right?

I bought the new Osram bulbs out of BavAuto catalogue, and they don't fit my double prong fronts. I've currently got the silver bulbs from Bimmian, kinda felt it was worth it for the convenience of not having to paint.

But since I can't find any bluish bulbs out there...

Whoever asked about what's the difference, here it is, no "egg yolk":

Apparently I still don't get it.

Got the engine temp paint, but I painted an extra set of my amber bulbs so blue, no light at all!!

So then I said screw it, and bought plain clear 1157 bulbs, thinking they'd flash white. But they don't, they still are kinda amber!? The amber really takes away for the low beam Angels.

I figure hey, I'm going with a front plate, so no one should care if my turns aren't amber, right? What I'm after is blue/white light, no amber at all.

Any suggestions? Just be more careful, and only put a very light coat of blue on the bulbs? Or, does anyone know where to just buy a blue/white bulb?

Um, answered my own question, found blue super whites on Ebay for $4 each, going that route.

I painted the Sh!t out of my rear bulbs and lo and behold...no light.

I think the key is super light coat, but I don't mind the amber. Go to bimmian.com and get some bulbs if you're super anal and don't mind dropping extra cash.

Roger that Astan, I've already got the silver look amber bulbs from bimmian, and I'm leaving them on the back.

It's the fronts I don't want anymore, they take away from my Angel Eyes, I now want blue look bulb that blinks white. So I'm going illegal...
