    Got a new head...

    unit that is. Hehe.

Congratulations! This item was purchased instantly using Buy It Now.

Item name: NEW '04 ALPINE CDA-9827 AM FM CD MP3 RECEIVER

I'll finally have subs again. Heres my question though, what amps do you all suggest? I have a 12 inch polk in a sealed box, and our trunks are really sealed.. so I am asking, what would get me a good rumble? I am not looking to break windows as I drive by, or set off car alarms.. etc...

I am looking for good sound quality. The factory subs are nice, but I would like a bit more... suggestions?

I'll get pic when I get the unit installed.

depends on how many watts your running, im running 1,000 watts on an Image Dynamics ID Max 12" sub with an Audiobahn A18001DQ (1,800 watts at 1ohm) amplifier at 2 ohms (approx 1,000 watts) and it thumps! I wouldn't settle for anything less than a class D amp for subwoofers

Well, right now I got a 200 watt amp, and that was plenty for my 320... when I put it in my M, alot of sound disappeared to the build quality of the vehicle...

I am thinking maybe 400 watts would be enough for me. I don't want the bass to overpower everything. My friend has about 2000 watts in his ride, and you get vibrated off your seats.. and hear no other sound but bass... thats poor imo.

Do you have the ski pass thru? It seems to me this would make a big difference in how much sound can pass through. If you don't, the sheet metal covering where it would be looks easy enough to knock out.

Audiobahn would be a good choice, it is cheap compared to other amplifiers in the same class. But the problem I find most people running into is that it's all chrome and some people aren't into all that. Memphis class D is good, but I'm guessing your Polk is at a 4 ohm setup? If so, a Memphis 250D would be great for it. If not, go with some Class A/B's from Audiobahn or MA audio. These amps are great for their price compared to others such as RF, Kicker...etc etc...and especially JL and Alpine.

Oh yeah, I'm back in Houston you guys. If you need any audio equipment, give me a holla and I'll see what I can hook you up with. It's my job here most of the summer anyways....keep me busy you guys. I am able to get my hands on Kenwood, Pioneer, JVC, Memphis, MA audio, Audiobahn, Blaupunkt....basically almost anything ICE. Trying to get a direct account with Alpine, talked to the sales rep already....should be soon. But as of now I have a different source of getting Alpine....but I should still be able to get it to you guys.

Will do, I was going to get a changer, but a friend pointed out that with the mp3s, you can put like 800 of them on one cd, and you're able to originize them into folders and whatnot.

              Salty: I don't have the ski pass-thru.

Nice choice on the HU, I love my 7894 even though it is now somewhat outdated.

the loudness of the sub also depends on how the box was built, if it was ported, its going to be alot louder, if its sealed, its going to be alot tighter bass and quieter, whatever u do, just make sure your going to run your sub(s) at their RMS rating, and if thats not cutting it, sell them and upgrade!

Oh but you do have a ski pass! Flip down your arm rest, remove the stuff covering the wall and punch through--i used my elbow though. There is perforation.
