    Silent alarm

Ive got a 94 coupe with standard alarm. It works just fine, closes all the windows and stuff, the only problem is, that when the alarm activates, only the lights flash, theres no siren. Any suggestions guys?

Is the horn installed under the hood? Try holding the arm/disarm button to see if it re-activates the chirp. Sometimes they are toggled on and off.

Yeah I can get the horn to activate when you try to crack the OBC code. Ive tried holding the button but the indicators just flash at me. Checked the siren box, and it is set to on. But im stuck with a silent alarm???

        Adam:

To clarify, the horn is not what goes off when siren is engaged, it's a separate device, left corner top of engine bay.

I just had to install one, at Sirius's dealership to be exact!

What may have happened is previous owner installed unit for keyless entry, never got around to buying the siren.

Like Sirius said, if you've never heard your system "chirp", you probably don't have the siren.

        If that is the case:

Around $90, easy to install, make sure they give you the bracket, not just the horn.

His alarm is the older version than yours Edgy. Its a bit different than how the ones that go in our cars work. Older technology, how its intergrated into the car, the remote is way different. I'll have to ask at work because I don't come across many of thoes anymore.

Right, ie, the alarm will go off like its supposed to, or if you hit the panic button correct?

It just won't chirp at you when you arm or disarm the system...

I believe theres a key combo on the remote you do to activate the audio confirmation, along with the visual one too.

Are your lights supposed to flash when you arm/disarm your alarm?

I don't recall every seeing an E36 OEM alarm flashing the lights. Just chirping. Guess I mis-spoke about that before...
