The photos on the grass were sent to me by the bloke I bought it off, the others were taken after I waxed it a couple of weeks ago.

What's your technique if any? Do you just spray degreaser on and then hose the engine off? Is there anywhere under there that you need to pay special attention to not getting wet?

I've always been scared to take a hose to the engine bay.

I spray it on and let the degresser do its work.

Harder spots may need a sponging. Around the valve cover on older engines, the oil filter cannister top, power steering top, anyplace prone to oil leaks. Then I just rinse the engine off.

But with a spread pattern from the hose not a direct beam.

If you have access to a compressor the technique I use is to blow a solution of Simple Green and water through a sprayer. It doesn't soak the entire engine bay and is very controllable. After I have dislodged the gunk I rinse with water. You should be carefull anytime you are washing an engine bay, as there are some things you should not get wet. Cover the Master cylinder with tin foil, as they have a vent on top. Cover the alternator, don't spray water near the coils or into any electrical connectors. Start car as soon as you are done and blow out the electrical connectors and engine hiding spots with air until you are sure you have most areas covered. (Wear glasses when blowing air under your hood.

Mostly Meguires stuff, some Autogylm on the plastics and Gliptone liquid leather on the seats.

The rims were real dirty when I bought the car and actually looked pitted

I got some wonder wheels as its nice and aggressive and I didn’t think I had much to loose. They came up really well (although they have got some kerb / fitting marks which really piss me off). I wouldn’t use WW a lot as I have heard stories about it rusting wheel bolts etc but for a one off clean it seemed OK. I took the wheels off the car so I could get behind all the spokes etc.
