Off topic but m3fuz, whats the weather like in Florida, Tampa, Miami, Keys area around late October / early November time ? It’s just that I am looking at going over for a fly drive and still want to come back to sunny England with a tan for Christmas.
Thanks for any advise.
Weather is fantastic in South Fl - Tampa south through the Keys. High 70s to low 80s during the day and dropping to the mid 60s in the evening. Further north, in Jacksonville, its usually in the low 70s during the daytime hours and low to mid 50s at night. You'll have a great time if you came here because the heat and humidity has subsided and there is still plenty to do.
You guys should look into a shift knob w/ a set screw - UUC, etc... That way no more pulling off during a spirited drive. The RK3 illuminated knob is quite a deal at 125 - 135 compared to the dealers 160, and the weight of the stainless steel (22oz.)takes a lot of the effort out of shifting.
Just my .02 - good luck.
I have been looking to get the illuminated UUC knob, but nobody has them. Dealing with UUC isn't my idea of a good time either, so I periodically check vendor sites. I like the Vitesse tuning knob that I have now - similar to the UUC magnum (with the motorsport stripes on the upper left) but lighter and a better feel.
If you pull your knob off during spirited driving then you're not holding it right and making proper arm movements... shifting, that is.
I've heard the extra weight from a heavy shift knob, similar to resting your hand on it, is not good for the tranny. I have no proof to back this up, just something I heard.

I have heard the same thing, I have also heard the modern trannys arn't affected by this by how the shifter is designed, but I don't believe it cause if you rest your hand against the shifter, you're still moving internal parts in the transmission...same with the weighted shiftknob...

I've heard this too - I believe I saw the writeup on the Rogue Engineering site some time ago.
I've heard the same thing, but have never seen any type of proof to back it up.
The shifter does not move around while driving and it doesn't seem as if it is putting any 'pressure' on the tranny. Anyway I would imagine that having a 'weighted' selector rod would apply the same forces as a shift knob in this situation. You would have more force going into gears and holding it there than a normally weighted selector rod so... Until I see some kind of proof or notice any problems myself I will continue to support the heavier shift knob and its benefits of reduced effort to shift.
In fact the shifter feels much closer to the shifter in my neighbors Ferrari 308 from years ago - heavy, true, and like it was made to shift.
As far as Rogue saying something about a UUC product, well.....
Rogue and UUC will always bash each other - end of story
You can count me in on the illuminated shift knob too, black leather is what I need. As for the shifting part, during spirited driving you shouldn't be holding on the the shifter anyway, it isn't a handle, it is used only to shift. Both hands should be on the wheel at all times, unless again, if you are shifting. And if you are pulling off your knob while shifting, you are putting entirely too much effort into the shift. Finesse is the name of the game.
