    Tire help needed-ASAP

    Hey guys-

Here's the situation. Driver side rear tire had a slow leak. I lived with it for 2 weeks filling it up every few days. I finally took it in today and found out that there is interior sidewall damage. The guy suggests to replace it.

Note: Other rear tire has around 50% tread left

    Options

1)Put a new tire on that would not match the others, total cost $150

2)Special order matching tire(drive car home and drive honda) $200 + labor

3)Take out spare, put tire from spare on nice rim, put non matching tire on spare $150

4)Put on spare, order brand new performance tires and replace both rears. cost=?

So far car is completely stock. WOrk is being done at Firestone since it is 1 block away from my office. Help and suggestions welcomed.

    Thanks,Bill

Is your spare the same size as your rears currently???

I would replace both rears and keep the old ones for a day in an empty parking lot or autocross - depending on the damage.

tire rack it, and then just pay for labor... with performance tires you can save a bundle.

If you have stock rims... then the spare is the same width as the front, not the rear. So you'll be running around on a thinner tire int heback

          Replace them in two(s).

Or get all 4 done. Don't mix/match brands either.

Since the spare only matches the front tires, here's what the guys suggested.

            Bridgestone Fusions 2 for $249

            Bridgestone SL3- 2 for $500

            Bridgestone Potenza RE010 2 for $500

            Thoughts?

Check tire rack - they can usually beat the stores cost by 10 - 20% or more. Then you can have them mounted for probably less than 40 bucks somewhere.

I would recommend the SO3's - sticky as hell and nice and quiet.

Also I would keep the tread patter the same on the rears as well as the fronts. I'm not saying that all 4 need to match, but the fronts should match each other & the rears should match each other. I'm not sure why people say you can't mix brands & treads either. I understand hydroplaning, etc... but having a different tread in the rear than the front wont cause any problems that I can think of.

Thanks for your feedback guys. Since I didn't want to get rushed into buying more expensive tires without doing my research, I decided to go with the Fuzions. My hope is that since I have more than 50% tread on front tires, that I could wait until late next summer or the year after to replace all 4. I understand that there are better performance tires, but didn't think it was worth the money at this point in the game. I'll post a review after a week of use.
