    rattling windows

Anyone know if rattling windows are easy to fix? My '99 M3 convt has this problem with the small side back windows. They rattle like mad on bumpy roads but when I roll them down all the way they don't rattle at all. Any help is appreciated. eace:

Remove the door panel, it's only two screws in behind the handle, unplug all the wires and pull the plastic cover.

Lower the window until you see the the window support rail, you'll see two screws pointed outward unfortunately. To tighten them you'll need a small 90deg ratchet screwdriver, it's a pain to get to but it solves the problem.

thanks for the advice, I'm a little gunshy in terms of doing anything to it right now but it's good to know I have options. I may try get the dealer to look at it first maybe before I start fiddling with it.

No better way to learn than to try yourself first.

Let me see if I understand this.... You have a convertible and the rear windows rattle on bumpy roads. Does this happen with the top up? If not, does the rattle happen within the rear panel of the car or are you referring to chatter between the front and rear windows when the top is down.

When my 'vert top is down and I hit the bumps, my windows chatter. I have looked at the mechanism within the body of the car and all the bolts are tight. I assumed this was normal convertible behavior. I would like to know if anyone else experiences this chatter.

Huge amount of noise on mine (98), when the top is down and the windows are up. It seems like the front of the rear window smacks against the rear of the front window. If I grab the window when driving the noise stops. One thing I have noticed is that the noise was greatly reduced after I installed my new RSMs. It probably reduced overall bottle rattle by 75%.

Currently, my hard top is on and when those rear windows are rolled up, they were rattling. I just got them tinted though and asked the shop if they could do the tightening for me. I wasn't expecting them to, but I think they did b/c now the rattling has gone away. There's still some noise but it's not the same type nor is it as loud.

                  What does RSM stand for?

Mine has been pretty bad here lately with the top up and the windows up. Mostly squeaks from the rubber, but pretty noisy. Do you guys experience the same thing? I figured it normal for a vert, but if I am mistaken, please correct me.

Top up and windows up, my vert is fairly quite. On the highway I don't hear rattles unless I hit a serious bump.

Yeah, I live in Downtown Jacksonville, and there are a lot of RR Tracks. It's mostly when I go over the tracks that I get this. Pretty serious bumps, so I guess this is normal.
