Got my second Bosch H1 Ellipsoid via German Ebay today. I foolishly bought them one at a time (left and right). It seems most Europeans want to switch out their factory ellipsoids in favor of Clear Hella lights, because bidding does not seem too fierce for the standard stuff. Anyway, one is mint (paid $50 for it), the other is VG other than a broken mounting tab. ($36), but came with a horizontal adjusting motor, which I don't imagine I will have much use for. Now the problem. Shipping was about $80.00 .Probably less if I had bought a pair at a time. For anyone interested a headlight is called a Scheinwerfer in German, so search under E36 Scheinwerfer. I think E36's are old news in the Fatherland, as I guess they are getting to be here. Now how much for that six speed Hans??

Was that $80/light or $80 total for the two lights shipped separately? And how was it shipped (priority, 1 wk, etc.)?
I bought euro lights for my Passat (about the same size as E36 lights, if not bigger) and the slow-boat-across-the-pond shipping was only $40 or so, for the pair, together, in a rather large box. It took 3 wks to get here, but I was in no rush.

BMW is about as much German as I know. English please.
Sorry mfree, I was just having fun with you. I don't know any German either. I just go here:

You can either copy and paste the text in, or just copy the address and have it translate the whole page.
As for the auction you were looking at, you have to make sure where it says Weltweit where it says Versand nach. That means worldwide shipping. The one you were looking at only ships within Germany.

For both auctions I won, they said Germany only, but I am used to this on Ebay. Usually when you write a note to the seller they will ship to the USA. I don't speak German, so I use the translation program on my computer to try and get a message across.

How long did shipping take in your experiences? Are there any taxes or duties tobe paid? did you use paypal?
Getting stuff from Germany seems like a logical thing to do if the red tape is not to much of a pain
