    The Deed is Done

So the day to look was today and apparently it turned into the day to buy. I just stepped up from an 88 325i to a 1996 M3, 2 door/5-spd, Estoril on Black Vaders, with Clears all around and H&R progressive springs to drop it about 3/4 inch. Showroom Condition engine bay/interoir/exterior with 38k miles on it. Just tried to attach a pic but it was too big....Have to wait til later this week when emissions and stuff are done and I take delivery.. I'm so excited I perpetually feel like I'm going to vomit. :eek2:

Man, I remember that feeling perfectly! I actually have it again now that I've been away from my baby for 3 months. These cars rule! We can't wait to see your ride.

Hey man, I'm in Canada and have really nitoced that the direct conversion between Can$ and US$ is barely even in the same ballpark since we had such a high original MSRP up here plus they are extremely rare compared to in the US which makes them pull a premium. There was mine and 1-2 other 38-k miles cars for sale at the same time in all of canada, I'm pretty sure (checked the autotrader from every province every week) They'll run from $32000Can to $35000 Can (say about $23000-$25000US) I got a nice deal on the lower end........... Not sure, but hope it this helps.

He lives 2 hours away, has to do emissions and get the sellers package and I have to finalize the details with the bank. Car should be delivered on Thursday, pics won't be long behind. I just hope I make it til Thursday though I may die before I get the car, as I have barely slept for 2 night now......I feel like a 5 year old on Christmas eve....

I understand your point re conversion, but why a higher MSRP? Socialistic taxes? That's too bad, although Canada did get a few of the 286hp M3's back in the mid-90's. Would have been worth more for one of those!

There was a thread recently about Estoril/Black, not common, very nice.

So Canada? What's your other car?

I'm not sure why there is a higher MSRP up here but I have the price guide form the dealer for the '97 model year and they quote MSRP as being $62,900 CAN. I saw the original bill of sale for the car I'm getting and I think I saw MSRP on it as being $39,000US or there abouts. Even in my car and driver from '94 it lists the MSRP as $36,000 US for the us-spece car. That would work out to about a 50-55% exchange rate which in '96 I believe the rate wa only in the area of 10-20%. Taxes are another issue, we pay 15% for a new car which ups peoples expectation for resale I think as well as we stil have to pay provincial 8% on a used car private sale, which blows. The second car for now is the 88 325i......it may be done away with and I'll go for a good set of snows. I hear the M3 is a pretty good winter car...hell I had no troubles last 2 winters with my 88 with no traction control and all seasons on it. The M3 will be rustproofed accordingly and taken to an indoor DIY carwash to be sprayed down every other day of winter driving. i can't wait.

Congrats, where are you in Canada? And who will do the service work? I also searched across the coutry before deciding that I would rather just get a US car. At the time I bought, the Cdn$ was at a high of .78 USD, so my timing was very good. I have seen the dealers asking over $40,000 CDN for an E36 M3, with cheapest examples around$25,000 Cdn (Currently about .75 US).

Hey Salty, I'm in St Catharines, but bought from Oshawa. Yeah I've seen the same price range too....I was right around the 30 mark in showroom condition, with every piece of paperwork and reciept down to the oil-change, just finished inspection-2, 8 months (2500km's) ago and needed nothing but spark plugs for insp-2, so with only 60km I figured I couldn't go wrong. The service work will be done by either performance BMW in St.Cath, or by a little service center near me, where the mechanic in a 60+ year old German man who knows BMW's like the back of his hand and has treated me extremely fairly and honestly with my 88 325, and to be honest, I couldn't imagine even any dealership doing a better job than he does. Where I take it will depend on what I'm having done at the time and what I think is best.
