    Help with Factory alarm please

When I was looking at the '96 that I'm getting the other day, and the seller went to demonstrate the alarm to me, he couldn't get it to work. The doors lock/unlock, transmitter lights up (batteries are fine and he tried 2 transmitters) car beeps on arm/disarm, but when the car is opened after it's unlocked but not disarmed, the siren does not go.....everything was tried and the siren just will not sound when it should. He's checked 3 fuses under the hood (but not the one under the glove-box yet....not sure if this one's crucial) BMW can't get him in until the 13th to fix it (I can't wait that long) so he was gonna try a pro audio/car electronic shop in his area plus some advice from here to hopefully accelerate things. Any advice on probably causes as well as the location of the siren in the car would be greatly appreciated. I figure this is not a big deal since the rest of the car is spotless. Thanks very much

It should go off if someone tires to start it.

After I installed mine, and was testing it, it would be picky sometimes. It sometimes took awhile to go off.

He said it chirps when you arm/disarm it. Theres only two wires to the siren up front.

Yeah everything chirps, and he said it's only actually ever gone off on him once in the last year when he accidentially unlocked, but forgot to disarm before he opened the door. He said it worked perfectly then, but not getting any luck for some reason now.....I've got no clue why. He only just noticed it because he's neverset it off since then.

When the alarm was installed, what sensitivity setting was it set to?

I'm not sure to tell you the truth, it was on the car from new from what I gather. I'm don't even know much about the factory alarm, when you ask about sensitivity setting, I'm guessing that it also has some sort of shock sensor for if the car is rocked or bounced at all?? What happened was when we were looking at the car, my dad asked if the alarm has a rocking/tilt sensor that would go off when armed if the car was bounced. He said he didn't even know since it's never really gone off, so he bounced the car with it armed.....nothing. He said guess not and went on to demonstrate the noise it would make when he opened the door without disarming (which is the only time that it had ever gone off on him) ..nothing again. He even tried the panic button and no noise at all. Like I said, the tramsmitter light is flashing when in use, and the car chirps the proper # of times for the individual function, just no alarm when prompted. I don't think the sensitivity setting would be an issue if it won't go even if the door is opened while armed or when the panic is pressed. Either way he said that part of the sale was the factory alarm being there so he's going to take care of it regardless, I'm just trying to get things figured out so I can get it this week not the 14th after the Stealership has time to fit him it. Thanks for the help

There are dip switches on the inside of the control module for the alarm, you have to take it apart. Its for the built in ultrasonic sensor

Low, medium and high. Low for converts, medium is factory setting, and high for sedans and coupes.
