What is the standard idle RPM setting?

It looks like the idle speed is configurable via DME.

Mine idles at 900 RPM, which in my opinion is too high?

    Any thoughts on this ?

    Right around 700.

      I think I'm around 600. Too low?

And in the E46 there was a way to get the OBC to display actual rpms; it was one of the "hidden" functions of the OBC that could be unlocked (I forget the whole procedure; something about turning the key while holding the OBC button or something). Is this possible in the E36?

i think this is just a gauge test or something but you push and hold for one sec on the tripometer display button in then you turn the key to acc1 one and then let go of the button, then it will give you a series of codes in your odometer area and your gauges will redline go back and forth and then reset, any ideas on what the numbers mean when they come up in the odometer disp?

I hope that's not a reset of all pre-programmed settings! Those gauge clusters are programmable, too

You have to access the cluster by what 95 said before, then you have to unlock the cluster with the last test, scroll to the test, and hold the button down for a few seconds.

After that, I think its like test 9 or something that give you the live rpm numbers.

AFAIK, the adjustment values for tach and speed sensors are stored in the EEPROM in the instrument cluster.

my idle is too low and i want to raise it. my icv is fine. everything is fine. i just want to raise my idle from 550 to about 700.

HOW.. JESUS CHRIST.. HOW HARD CAN IT BE.

it's truly ridiculous that i havent been able to find out how.. everyone just says "its in the ecu". there has got to be a way. maybe i should just send an email to mr. conforti.

I think you have to program the DME. I'll find out.
