    99 m3 tilt wheel

I just bought 99 m3 conv, does this car have a tilt wheel? No manual with the car, I'm a former 97 m3 coupe owner, swore there was one...

I have the same car and it does not have a tilt wheel. According to the owner's manual, tilt wheel was an ??OPTION?? I dunno, but that seems kinda cheap, to me. A car that was $50K originally should have a tilt wheel, IMO. Yeah, the seats move in like 10 different directions. But sometimes you need to move the wheel around to find the perfect spot.

And I don't think a tilt wheel is a frivolous option to ask for, like cup holders or storage bins.

No tilt wheel on any 96+ M3. Maybe on some early 95 build M3's, but that is it. The reasoning I have heard is that it gives better steering feedback by not having that extra "joint" in there.

Supposedly the parts are completely interchangable.. so if you want to upgrade.

Which is cheap on MB and BMW's part, IMO, because my '91 Passat has tilt wheel.

Yeah, you can move the seat, but that's a HUGE pain in the as$. It takes me forever to find the correct seating position in the M, so I really hate to move it at all. But I would like to mvoe the wheel around to make freeway driving more comfortable.

BMW decided that the wheel was at optimum posistion for a performance car. Why need to move it?

I agree. The steering wheel position has never bothered me one bit. I like it, just one less thing to worry about. I'm already picky as hell when it comes to positioning the seat.

I'm 6'3 so with the seat up (close to the action) the top of the speedo is cut off by the steering wheel. I could lay back and drive like a pimp, but why would I do that? I'll drive the benz if I want to pose. The m, even in conv format, is still a sharp edged tool...

One of the things I noticed when test-driving an M3 for the first time was the lack of equipment that I would have assumed was included and the amount of equipment that seemed almost like too much. I really only even wanted to do the first test drive just to see if I'd be comfortable driving it with the non-adjustable steering wheel. Thankfully I was, so the search for one begins in earnest.

For instance: no inside trunk release? no inside fuel door opener? Every car I've ever had has had both of those features (and a tilt wheel, fwiw), but the M did not.

On the other hand: Dual zone climate control? Wow, the car is hardly any bigger inside than my MX-6, and it needs dual climate? Made me chuckle. The other things the car had were just really nice, like the trip computer (my old Probe LX had one very similar), auto down AND UP window switches for BOTH windows, (why doesn't everyone do this?) and things like heated seats and traction control and all those things that none of the cars I've ever owned are really "rich" enough to have had.

(I really almost hate posting on a board for a car I don't own when I'm really only in the "looking for one" stage. I know how I roll my eyes at the kids who post on probetalk.com about how they "want to get a Probe GT / MX-6, and hope they can do X and Y and Z to the car..." Now I'm in the same spot. Newbies... )

On the sedans, which I really find annoying with my car, is the lack of the auto-up feature for the rear windows.
