Shift knob removal was far easier than advertised.

So, I just put on my new shift knob and it wasn't difficult at all. There was no standing with my head out the sunroof pulling or even standing up in my car.

I just, from a sitting position, pulled pretty hard with one hand and it popped right off.

The new one is on there and it doesn't seem to come off with some good tugs, so I'm happy.

This was just advice for anyone planning on just pulling the heck out of that shift knob to remove it.

Lol, that means yours was worn out, and was probably going to fail soon.

A good knob will be a bitch to remove. Consider yourself lucky.

I don't know man. Like...I've never lost the knob while shifting and I had to give it a darn good tug...far harder than any shift would require.

I've thrown a shift knob off before in this M3 I test drove, so I know that it's possible. Mine was still good...I think.

The new knob is heavier than my original...which helps get through the notchiness somehow. I've heard it's not good to have too weighty a knob, but this feels pretty good.

As a side note Sirius, where did you get your M Tec E brake? Is that OEM stuff or is it manufactured by BMW or is it some aftermarket company?

I was at an autox once where a buddy of mine ripped his knob off during a hard 1-2 shift. He actually lost it and thought it flew out a window. A week later he found it in his passenger side map pocket.

What's the new knob look like?

Funny, I jerked off in a rapid shift one time. I thought it was just a fluke....

Four wheels, twin kidney grill, M3 logo...

Cosmos black M3 - just bought about 3 weeks ago so not sure if you would have seen it around yet. Anytime you want to get together let me know. I have yet to meet a fellow M junkie in my area.

Here's a link to a thread with a picture of the car: http://www.m3forum.net/m3forum/showthread.php?t=34551

Also, if you're not doing anything sunday, you might want to attend the NJ BMW CCA autocross going on. I'll be there, and whether you drive or watch they're always good fun.

Nice knob, BTW. I had a similar one in my last car, minus the "M" emblem because my car wasn't an M car. I think it was actually one of my first mods (memories...).

Its aftermarket I believe. Just labled m-tech. I got them from ebay.

Yeah, I saw lots of M Tech stuff on ebay.

Does the e brake handle feel like it's made decently? You can never tell how well made stuff is on ebay. The shift knob looked a little cheap.

Its soild aluminum. Quite sturdy. Only thing I have noticed is the chrome ring on the front tends to come unscrewed from time to time, but it just screws right back on.

Hey, Sirius, how about just hooking the man up with a pic so he doesn't have to play 20 questions??!! (plus, I think we all want to see what your hard "handle" looks like!)
