i as well as my father are in the salvage business. everyone dogs salvage but they really dont know what they are talking about. a car can be salvaged if its been i water stolen vandalized etc. my m3 was salvaged, its a 96 cosmos black with 41k on it when bought. thing is in immaculat condition. you have to understand the prices for parts on cars arent cheap and when you start to add up little things that need to be replaced the reapairs get quite expensive, for instance my car needed the entire nose replaced sheet metal wise and slight frame work. in order to get the parts to all line up and for the car to pass Salvage inspection which is the hardest inspection a car will see. the frame of the car has to be straightend and measured so that the measurments line up to the exact millimeter or it will not pass inspection. i paid $4,000 for my car at the auction and put another 2k in parts and paint etc. so if your telling me a 96 m3 with 41k original miles is a rip off because its salvage then i dont know. the reason cars are savaged is mostly becasue the prices of parts are relatively expensive. they go by dealer costs not wholsale or anything so do the math here are estimated prices, a complete front bumper assembly around $600ish headlights $200ish, fenders$300ish sensors$100-300ish, plastics$100-$300, radiator$300ish, aux fan $300ish ac condensor$300ish, broken motor mounts$100ish, labor for assembly around a $1000, paint and what ever else $1500ish. anyone who knows how much bmw parts cost will know that this all adds up to being more. plus all the other things that need to be replaced will add up insurance companies use retail prices and that is why the repairs get so costly and the vehicles get salvaged. In reality you drive teh car not the title, and that is why i dotn understand why people make a big fuss about it. as long as the car is purchased through someone who knows what they are doing they will not have any regrets purchasing a salvaged vehicle

    Well said brotha

I totally understand where you're coming from 96cosmos, but the problem is that we don't know anything about the salvage car he's gotten. I dont' like taking someone (especially a seller's) word that the car was "only in a minor accident".

If you can score a car that had no internal damage and was just totaled because to cosmetically put it together would be too expensive...great, but that's not always the case.

So, if the guy is an inexperienced buyer (not you obviously) then he might get taken big time if lots of people on the board go, "Sure, you can score an AMAZING salvage car. Defniitely buy it."

I suppose the point is moot now though since he bought it.

I don't care what any one tells me. After seeing wreck after wreck, I only want a clean car heh.

Well, I guess we all have opinions on stuff like this but that being said i'm right there with ya. I will never buy a car with a dirty title. I dont expect to change anyones mind on this subject, but have seen to many people burned.

I was the primary buyer for a pretty good size Auto company that owns 6 dealerships and base my opinions on experience and nothing else.
