    I ruined my rear window!

So I just purchased a 1995 Avus M3 on Wednesday, the prior owner had a cell phone antenna installed on the rear window. The antenna was attached with double sided foam tape on both the inside and outside of the glass. The outside piece came off fine, but when I took the inside piece off it tore and pulled off part of a plastic coating that is on the inside of the glass. Now it looks really tacky because it is torn and the area I tried to press back on doesn't look right.

What is this? Im not sure if it is for a tint (glass appears OEM) or if it is to prevent the glass from shattering in an accident. Can the coating/sticker be replaced? or would I have to replace the whole window? How much would it cost?

It's most likely the factory tint that you peeled off. It's not even dark enough to notice, but it's there.

If I were you I'd just take it to a tint shop and get new tint all the way around. It looks good and keeps the interior of the car cooler on hot summer days, thus preserving the interior alot better than OEM tint.

I promise you, you were going to need to get that car tinted anyways, and it is well worth the money
