why are YAHOO AUTOS soooo cheap?

I've been lookin to buy an e36 m3 for a few weeks now. I typically check out the local paper and auotrader.com... however, yesterday i finally went to yahoo and looked at the autos on their site. I found MANY e46 m3's for sale on yahoo. Some are convertibles and said to be mint condition with only a few thousand miles. The prices are VERY LOW, something like $16,000. Can someone explain whats the deal with this stuff.

I found one that said it was the result of a Texas street flood...so that made sense, but somehow it ended up in Philly, near where i am from.

So if someone can fill me in that would be fantastic.

Thats what i was thinking...reposessed, theft, water damage...

$16,000 for a 2001 vert. with low mileage in great shape...something isn't right.

that has gotta be some kinda misprint or a scam. Even if it was fully salvaged it would sell for more than $16g's.

Scam. If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

Any time you see a really sweet deal on an E46 M3 or other nice car, you can bet it'll be some con artist. If you look closely at their ads, you can usually find some red flags - eg, the link posted above has no phone number.

Yea, this guy has replied to me but won't send his phone number...what i found that is weird is that he says he lives in Pennsylvania, only 30 miles from me. But the pics of the car has big palm trees in the background. Definitely a scam. He has a valid VIN up there though, although i'm not sure if it matches the car exactly. I wanna try to find someone to run the #'s. Anyone know of anyway i can do that? or does that have to be done by a cop or something? I'd like to find out address and phone number if i could to see whats goin on with this thing.

speagle....I ran a carfax and it's all updated. Clears fine, but there is definitely something not right. Waiting for something like..."Oh yeah I forgot to mention it's a 1/64 scale hot wheels toy"

I dont wanna get psycho over this , but i'd like to track this guy down...not to show up at his house or anything, but i'd like to atleast get a phone number and call him. Thanks for checkin the carfax, anyone know how to trace a VIN for a phone number or address?

These guys usually copy a VIN off a car that is registered to someone else, or a car that they saw at a dealership.

I found a 2002 coupe with good milage in good shape for $24,000 back when i was looking for my E36, so I sent an e-mail.

I got a reply but the english was so broken I really couldn't understand it. He said he is from Michigan and so is the car, and it stated this in the auction. But then he says for some reason he is now overseas and so is the car, so he wants me to send a $5,000 deposit and the rest western union under someone elses name so "he can't get the money until I change the name back over to his", then he'll ship the car and I would have it "in 3 days".

                            Right... :hmm:

                            It's a scam, don't fall for it.

The reason so many are cheap is because they're all fakes. You send a deposit, as one person stated above, they take your money and you never get a car.

If its too good to be true, it probably is. If you're really looking for an E36 M3, then check out the classifieds on this forum and bimmerforums.com. Also, check out something like craiglist.com or even eBay.
