    High miles + new engine

I was just thinking about it and thought maybe it might be more worth my money to buy a high milage car for cheap and then just replace the engine with a new one from the BAVARIAN ENGINE EXCHANGE.

One of the reasons I was thinking about this was the idea of having a 3.2l OBD1. Which would respond to mods nicely and I could have the option of adding on AA's Stage 3 in the future (I know it costs like $15,000.)

So what do you guys think. Would it be worth it going high milage w/ fresh engine? What things, if any, begin to fail at, let's say, 200,000 miles non-engine oriented?

*Note I am talking about US-spec engine.*

Plus, I figured that doing this would cost about the same as maybe a 95' w/ about 80,000 miles.

You can rebuild the whole car, but the unibody will not be as tight at really high mileage. Cars get loose. Just drive in a taxi and you will be able to tell the diff between old and new. Lot's of componentry to go wrong on a high miler too. Personally, once the door hinges are loose, it is a beater...still fun, still fast, but will never be young again.

You will probaby have to replace the steering rack, suspension, flex disc, driveshaft center bearing etc. Probably all the bushing and mounts i.e. RTAB and subframe mounts.

sirius why did you have you engine replaced?

Try Finding A 200k M3. I'm A Dealer And Would Love To Have One With The Exception That I Will Have To Pay 8,9000 For It Plus It's Still A 200k Car. Once Your Done With The Cosmetics And Start On The Mechanicals[ Which Ever Comes First For You] You Will Have A Ton Wraped Up In It, Far More Then Just Buying An 80k Car. I've Seen People Try To Turn There E36 Into A M And Spent Far More Then They Would Have On An M. What's The Point.

So in other words going with a car with about 80,000-90,000 miles is a better plan.

Thanks for the info and opinions.

LOL, no. I have accepted the fact that I will most likely never find the M3 I want in AZ. Something tells me it'll end up coming from the east. But all that spells is a road trip with a new car.

                    Mazur,

Try Southern Cali, if you take your time you will find something nice.

Check auto trader every couple of days, use this zip code-91501.

When you find one and you feel you are not been BS jump on it. I live in the Burbank area. In fact if you are serious about it I will check it out for you, so you don't have to drive out here.

You must have a pre-buy inspection done before any $ is exchange. Let me Know

Hey, thanks a lot. I'm not "ready" yet to purchase a vehicle. But when the time comes I'll PM you.

Just checked out that zip code, nice selection.
