Hey guys,



My code doesnt seem to work. Do i need to activate it the thing or is something wrong with it. I dont have a alarm yet. I just figured that i could use the code till i get that done. But it wont turn on and wont let me set one.

You have to set a new each time you want to use it.

The code is worthless, as is an alarm for the most part. Did you read your owners manual yet? It's in there.



Pretty much, turn the car off and stick it in one of the auxillary pos. press code, set to what you want...DON'T forget the #!!!...press set. Take out key.



Then you'll have to reenter it.



Now, the code can be disabled by disconnecting the battery for 10 mins or something. The only thing an alarm does is scare off a bad thief. Most thives wont' touch BMW's because you need a lasercut, microchip encoded key to start it. An alarm doesn't add ignition kill or anything, that's already built into the car.



I would just get a keyless entry unit over an alarm.



If someone has a tow truck, they can steal your car regardless of alarm etc., but that's about it for your normal theives. The code button is best from discourging a younger brother (or older) from borrowing your car.

Do you know any good units (keyless entry unit) for the M3? How hard are they to install... My car does not have one

I have a Stellar Alarm which was a bitch to install and they lied about features...but the keyless unit may be ok.



What year is your car. If it isn't a 98 or 99, I wouldn't get a Stellar because your ignition kill is wired into your double locking and MY Stellar didn't come prewired for double lock as advertised, so I had to do it myself which was a bitch.



Check out bavauto.com for soem prices. Make sure that they PROMISE you that the double lock works because I want to hear it from their mouths.
