hi...im looking to buy an E36 M3. ive shopped around for about 2 months or so and have found a couple candidates. i just have a few questions, as ive never purchased an M before. should i be concerned by mileage in excess of 100k? like what should i expect, performance wise from these engines as they get to this plateau...if i buy an M with like 120k miles should i expect to still have it running strong in 50 or 60k miles? this is assuming i take proper care of it of course. also, how would i gain insight as to the previous owners upkeep of the car? you know like whether it was driven hard etc. ive been looking to own one of these amazing machines for a while, i just wanna make sure it wont be too much of a headache to care for. thanks

Make sure to check out the FAQ e36 version for a thread on buying used. There is a lot of really good info in there. Welcome to the forums.

My mechanic said these engines get broken in at about 75K miles. If it's properly maintained, then I see no reason why it can't take you that far. There are several E36 owners with mileage in excess of 150K. It just depends on how well it's taken care of.

The FAQ section on this board is really comprehensive. Alot of questions for new M3 owners can be answered there.
