    Engine Problems help....

Its not looking good. I just returned from the shop where I took my 95 M3 for a engine knock which croped up last week. While we are not exactly sure what it is all about I knew it would be bad. She has 75k on her and I have owned since new. lots of mods. We are thinking its a rocker or a lifter with some timing lash as well. (Timing tensioner). I need help finding parts as we will replace all lifters or rockers depending on which and how it looks in there.

I am looking for a good aftermarket lead or stock parts lead... CHEAP....

THIS SUCKS!!! I am straped for cash and this is going to hurt

where in the motor is it coming from? It might just be the vanos unit making noise, they tend to. Or is it more toward the head? Like a stuck lifter?

Its in the front left and sounds deep. Thought a couple of weeks ago it was the ac unit bearing but its not. Used a stethiscope(sp) to locate the knock and it would seem to be a rocker / lifter problem. Will not be sure until I remove the engine cover. will be looking for parts...any leads? Ideas?

If you have a rocker lifter problem, that is, it is broken, then there is a good chance that cylinder would be mis-firing. Is the engine smooth like normal, or is there any hint of roughness? If your problem is rockers or lifters at least it is on the top end of the engine and won't be so bad. Now, if you've got bad con rod bearings or other such problems that are internal it is going to take a lot more time/blood/sweat/$$$ to take care of. Get the cover off and report back.
