    Best chip for 98 M3?

Just looking for some quick guidance from those that have experimented. Who's got the best chip for the E36 M3, that is, best one producing the most power gains? I've done some searching but still haven't come up with any solid advice.

Are you the guy using this car for SCCA racing?

If so, you might want to see who offers custom software tuning, especially if you plan on a number of engine mods. I know a number of people swear by the AA tuning, which I believe is custom.

I have a 98' M3 4DR and just had it sharked. I have no other modifications aside from the fan delete, which is quite negligible. The JC Shark Injector seems to do nothing to a stock 3.2 motor under 5,000 RPM. You can feel a smoothness and a higher willingness to rev from 5,000 RPM and up. Max. engine speed was increased to exactly 7,000 RPM. The motor is definately more willing to rev up to 7K now. From my friends experience, cuz i haven't tried it out yet, rev-limited maximum speed was just over 160 mph. I must note that 160 mph as shown on a speedo probably isn't really 160, because the accuracy goes down in that range.

The shark injector is meant for use with other modifications to increase power gains. Commonly, intake systems have a tendency to decrease low-end torque a little while adding high-end. People who have swapt out a '95 M3 intake manifold to their 96-99 motors, will experience undeniable high-end gains. From experience from a friend, low-end torque with this modification is reduced slightly again. The shark injector flattened out the curve and restored the low-end torque that the JC intake and '95 M3 intake manifold had taken away.

      Cheers. Hope this helps.

Honestly, the only thing I really want from a chip is the 7000 rpm limiter. The gains in my last car were almost nonexistent and I doubt I will see anything significant in this car.

I'm going to be prepping a Jensen Healey for SCCA IT, the M3 is just going to be used for daily driving and one of the BMW track days where the Lotus stays home. I'm interesed in moving the rev limiter slightly and whatever power gains that we can get from the car, if any. I'm not planning on adding mods to this car, I've got other ones that fill that role, so the M3 is and will remain stock for the time being except for the possibility of a software upgrade.

                Consider DINAN Performance Software.

It is available in stages to maximize your naturally aspirated performance. It's available at many dealerships across the country via a simple software download.

                STAGE I

                Part #: D900-32M

                Price: $399.00

Labor: not included (usually 1/2 hour)

Emission Status: 50 State Emission Legal

Special Notes: Various Stages of Dinan Performance Engine Software are available for specific configurations of products.

                Peak Horsepower Gain: 10 @ 5000 rpm

                Peak Torque Gain: 10 lb/ft @ 5000 rpm

                http://dinancars.com/Admin/images/Products/CIRCUITB.jpg

Dinan Performance Engine Software unleashes more power by re-programming the fuel mixture and ignition timing parameters of the engine management system. Furthermore, the software safely raises the rev-limit, giving your BMW a broader power band and greater road speed potential in each gear. Significant gains are also achieved at part throttle, making extra power available where you spend the bulk of the time driving. The top speed governor has also been eliminated, enabling the vehicle to achieve it's "natural" top speed.

A Stage 2 version of Dinan's Engine Software is available for optimum performance from the High Flow Cold Air Intake System as well.

Have you given up on modding the M3? Just the other day you were asking about specific engine capabilities to build an SCCA weekend track car and now you don't seem interested at all.

I posted some info on M3 engine performance and upgrade suggestions on the engine specs topic the other day. You didn't respond so I figured something was wrong.

What changed your mind? Too expensive? :???:

I was asking about engine mods for future building with respect to SCCA. Right now the car is to be used for daily work and I will not touch it for some time. I appreciate the links and information however and am storing that away for future use. Sorry if I lead you to believe that was occuring immediately. And yes, doing a E36 for SCCA is high dollar, no doubt, which I sort of knew but seriously confirmed last night speaking to a fellow that has one in SCCA! I'm wishing to run in Improved Touring, a much cheaper classificaiton, using the JH. Do you race in SCCA? What classification?

So it looks like the majority of software does about what I'd expect - advanace timing a bit, change A/F, and probably most importantly removes the speed limiter (if there is one on the E36 M3) and RPM limit. Looks like the latter two will be most useful, especially for the occasional track days (three) I anticipate at this point in time for the first year.
