    Daytime running lights?

Well I don't like DDE's so that's out of question.

I'd like to have something like the E46's and IS300's have, DRL's in the high beam housings. But I know they have a second pair bulbs for DRL's in the high beam housings don't they?

So is there a way I can have that retrofitted?

The ZKW's have the little light and the connections for the DRL's. They arn't the normal highbeams that are on, just lower power though. Seperate lights.

US spec cars can't be programed to run DRL's though, or so I have been told.

Best bet would be to wire them into your parking lamps, or to a seperate switch and on their own circuit.

Damn you are like the living god of E36 FAQ, answers all my tech questions

I think I will need the Euro light switch? I will look into it

I thought the only difference in the euro light switch was the addition of the rear fog lamp button....

My US spec car has DRL's now. It took one hour at the dealer to get the fronts on all the time. I have to use the headlight switch to turn the rears on and the dash lights. I was told they had to change one wire.

Euro light switch plus Euro lights I read on another forum... don't know for sure though but that thread was like "no relays, no lomb, just the switch and the light housing"... your guess is as good as mine.

In the end though, I've taken mine out (they're not daylight lights here, just another light) becuase they were yellow and looked sh!t with my other bulbs.

Are they required by law there? If not, why do you want them? If so, why not just use your headlights?

If you want to switch it on your US lights you need to get a canadian high beam relay.

Do the DRL's use low beams or high beams on your car? Also are they on when your switch is at the "0" position? TIA!

Yea that's what I thought, a relay to cut some wattage that goes to the high beams or something like that. Does anyone know the p/n of this Canandian replay?

I did a brief ETK search and came up with the following:

                    "Relay Day-light-driving": 61358368039 $46

                    "High beam module": 61358370510 $11

Any idea what would I need?

If all you want is traditional DRL's (like is the law in Canada) you don't need to buy any parts. I am not sure if my high beam works in drl mode, but I will check and let you know if it does.

Here's how the DRLs work on my Canadian 97 M3/4.

                        - High beams work as DRLs when you turn the ignition key to the second postion. DRLs are on before, during, and after cranking the engine.

                        - Parking brake does not affect DRLs. (It does on some Japanese cars.)

                        - The DRL module provides reduced power to the high beams; in my estimate about 1/4 or 1/3 of normal high beam brightness. However, their brightness is enough to overwhelm the city lights.

                        - The color of the DRL is very yellow, so they may look out of place with DDEs. I have ZKWs without DDE and have not connected the city lights.

                        - DRLs stay on when the you turn on the park lights. The fog lights can now be switched on with the park lights and DRL on.

                        - DRLs do not affect high beam flashing. You can still flash you high beams at any time provided ignition key is in the second position.

                        - When low beams are switched on, the DRLs go off.
