ASC and ABS lights turned on same time.....now won't leave

I was driving yesterday on the highway at around 85 when I braked for a car changing into my lane at that point my ASC and ABS lights turned on. I pressed my check control on my OBC and everything said OK.

Once I hit my exit and was waiting at the light I immediately turned my car on and off. The lights were gone. I drove about 10 min until I got home with no lights coming back on.

I turn on my car this morning and the lights are back on. I tried turning my car on/off again which helped last time but they are still there.

Do you think its a malfunction? I do need new rotors (brakes are squeeling too with descent pad left) so is it possible that the lights could come on from that the rotors and brakes needing replaced?

It could be a funky wheel speed sensor. Then again, it could be about 20 things.

I would have it looked at.

Well it hasn't come on again. If it does then I'll take it to get looked at but until then....f*ck it.

        Probably a gremlen.

I hooked my car up to the DIS, and found two of my speed sensors had throw up errors. *shrug* No ill affects yet.

          What does that mean?

My ASC/ABS light is coming on again yet when I turn off/on my car immediately it goes away....starting to think something is loose and it may not be worht 65/hr to have someone tell me that.

You might want to try replacing your asc and abs relays in the fuse box under the hood. As far as problems the e36 asc system is a good system compared to the newer dsc systems. Most of the time when I have an e36 come in with the asc and abs lights on, the problem leads to one of the two relays (most of the time the abs relay)not providing B+ to the control unit popping a no B+ to inlet valves fault.

The dealer is the only place I know where you can get these relays and they're not the same part number. If you have a friend with an e36 w/ asc swap with his before spending any money. If this fixes your problem the lights will go out and stay out, no need to clear fault memory.

I was having this same problem and found this link, and had resigned myself to a trip to the mechanic to get the codes checked. At the same time I noticed a slow leak in the right rear tire. It turned out the tire picked up a couple of screws (damn, in pretty new Michelin PS2's, too!). Since the repair, the lights have not come back on. It seems the computer was picking up a difference in wheel rotation and sent the message to the computer. So, check your tire air pressure before doing any expensive code checks!

BTW, Thanks to everyone on this site. I can't tell you how much time and money I've saved with info the dealer won't tell you!
