I just got back from a weekend of drifting in Fontana. Well, what I had previously been told was a competition, was actually an exhibition. I thought I was going up against the big dogs, but infact, this weekend I ran amongst them. Dunlop Tires, one of my sponsors held a drift exhibition at this years California Autofest. They had asked the people they were sponsoring to run drift demos during the event, so people could actually see what drifting was. So all the sponsored cars met at the track Friday night. Let me start off by saying this; I have never been to a track event before and been the slowest car. Some of the cars I was running against: Rotary Power's FDRX7, more mods than I have space for, pushing around 400 to the wheels. Then there was the Motegi Sil Eighty, not only was it putting out 320 to the wheels, it was also squeezing, The Bondurant School brought out their GTO, prepped much like Rhys Millens D1 car, A supercharged S2K, a supercharged 350Z, the Cartune S-14 with an upgraded turbo. Mind you, with the exception of my car and the Honda, the rest were also stripped on the inside, making them lighter. It was a big variety of vehicles and people. All the people who tookpart in the event were great people, I met SteveO the drifter, not the Jackass, I also met Ross Petty who drives the RX-7 and his crew. All the guys there were amazing people helping me with technique, and giving me pointers. We all partied and drifted and had a good time. In fact, no cars broke down if you don't count the occasional flat, and no accidents occured. I have some video footage that I am editing right now, and I will have that as well as some pics posted by tomorrow most likely for those of you who want to see.
