    Planning to get a e36 325i or 328

Im planning to get either of those cars, and everybody I know tell me that even tho the 92-95 models are relatively cheap, the maintanence is going to kill you financially. Eh..I'm 17, so yeah i was wondering if its really expensive to repair and maintain a car like that.

holy $hit...yea bro, these cars are super expensive to fix. especially older one's b/c you'll get nickle and dimed to death...hundred bucks here, 80 there, it adds up quik sometimes. I'd chill out on buying one unless you've got a lot of money... and if that's the case, buy a late model E36 M3 .

Yeah, these cars will cost you. You gotta be prepared for that.

Since I bought mine, I have put new suspension on, replaced my raidator, replaced all tthree of my idler pullies. That was the basic stuff, I still have to replace the output shaft and shifter seals on my tranny too, new wipers, and back to OEM exhaust.

Then my 'I want' upgrades I have done.

Well, since I have both a 325 and 328, I would definitely recommend getting the 328...it feels much faster, and of course, it's newer. As far as repair costs, I haven't run into many problems with either. As long as you're willing to do the maintenance and small repairs yourself, it's not bad. People complain about how expensive BMW's are, but in my personal experience, if you shop around for discount parts, and work on them yourself (in most cases), it's not too bad at all. Picking up a good used car with records and everything helps.

Any used car could have problems, though, no matter how reliable they supposedly are, so if it comes down to a Camry or Accord, or a 328, I would go with the 328, because it's much more enjoyable to drive. If a 328 is at the peak of your budget, and you can't afford occasional repairs, maybe you could get a cheaper car, and in a few years, get a 99 M3 for the same price as you would've gotten the 328 for today.

Yeah when i get a car i really have to start paying attention to the cars insides. I have to learn how to do the little maintanence things myself. How much do 328s go for? I kno 99 M3 is like 15-20kish??

I would guess you could get a 328 for $10-15k, depending on year and miles.
