    Salty roads.

As some of you might know, I'm still in the market of buying an M. Question is, is it OK to buy a car from east where roads are salted during the winter?

What effect does the salt have on a car? I have found an M that seems to be in mint cond. But it's located in Maryland and have been suggested by several to only buy the car from California, or any other warmer, non-humid climated state.

Salt on on unprotected steel is horrible. It'll rust it out faster than you can blink.

Todays cars have very good undercarrage protection.

There shouldn't be any problems unless theres bare metal exposed.

Since we had a pretty active winter last year, I had plenty of road salt on my car, I rinsed the undercarrage off several times durring the winter though.

And the many times I have been under the car, I haven't seen any crossion issues.

Rust hasn't been a problem on BMW's for a long time.
