If you plan to take it to the snow, forget about it. My friend's Previa did better in the white stuff than the X5. ;-)

The car really doesn't handle well in the snow??? That was actually another reason why i was looking into the X5. We all know how horrible our M's are in the winter weather. I couldn't use it for over a month last winter. (i feel like i'm just handing out a donation to my insurance company every winter) So i figure if i get the X5, it's still a bimmer and classy in that sense and i can have more use from it throuhgout all the seasons. I wish i could own 2 cars. I probably could but i think that would be a waste of money, unless i was taking home $500,000 a year like my boss does. Then i wouldn't be having this conversation with you guys. But most of us don't take that kind of money home so we have to always go back and forth on what we should or shouldn't do. I need to win the friggin lotto. :banghead:

You have to admit that this is a sharp X5.

Put some snow tires on the X5 during the winter and it will not be a problem. It is because of the performance tires that the car may not drive well. My M3 drives great in the winter with snow tires.

Additionally, have you looked at a 540 Sport with a 6-speed? They are reasonably priced if you get a slightly used one and can be modded pretty well.

Thanks for the tip. That's most likely why E36Pilot was disappointed in the handling of the X5 in the snow. I didn't think about that.

I was actually looking into the 540 as well. It's a nice car. It's just that i was thinking of changing around completly and going the truck route. But the 540 is still right there with the X5 and the 6 speed is something i always wanted (in the m3 of course, but we can't all be lucky enough to have that). As a matter of fact my friend just bought himslef a 1998 540 6 speed and it's a pretty nice smooth powerful ride. I guess i just have to really see what i want. It's such a difficult decision. eace:

Here is a nice 540 with some Dinan mods. Maybe you could snag it for a low price since it was in a minor accident, then repaired.

Fabio, it sounds like you are looking for an all-season car and without a doubt, an S4 would probably be the perfect car for you. I know that this is a bimmer forum, and I love my M, but you've got to admit that those Audi's are sweet year-round cars...You should really go and check those out...

The audi S4 is definitly a nice looking car and very quick, but you know what, the interior really turns me off. I don't like the dash or the controls at all. But that's just my opinion. I think i would try and stick to a BMW if i decide to make a change.

Have you thought of looking at the Porsche Cayenne S? It is very close to the price of the X5 4.4.

If I had to drive an SUV, it would be the Porsche.
