valve retainers

Found this on net. Just wondering if anyone has had a problem with this.

Early production (pre 10/95) versions used softer valve retainers. The softer metal is more prone to wear than BMW had estimated, thus these should be checked around 50K miles. A worn valve retainer will result in catastrophic engine failure. The valve will drop through into the cylinder, whack the piston to bits, and bend the valve stems.

I have heard that before, but not in much detail.



I believe the fix is an updated set of retainers, which are stronger.
