    Secondary chain tensioner

Hi folks, I was wondering if anyone is at all familliar with the secondary chain tensioner on a '95 M3. I have my car in the shop and we've replaced the primary and secondary tensioners and the vanos and it is still making a buzzing noise. This is killing me, she's been in there for over a week now.

You need to replace the spring plate between the two sprockets on the intake camshaft.

Hey beemertek, yea I saw you post this once before....I went to pick her up yesterday and there was that buzzing noise and I was like "fu(k that!" $800 later. Did you do this on yours and have it shut up?

Yes, I've ran into this problem a few times, Feel the valve cover on the front top portion and see if this is where the rattle/vibration is comming from. You've already had them replace everything else, The spring plate is the only thing left.

How much does something like that cost to replace?

I don't think the part is that expensive, but you have to take off the valve cover, vanos unit, and the intake cam sprocket (that I know of) just to get to the plate...I think it would at least be 3 hours of work.
