    mechanic broke convertable top

I'm extremely pissed off at my mechanic. I dropped off my car to have the rear shock mounts replaced but in the process he's managed to make the soft top inoperable. The top won't unlock and open now. He's not sure how to fix it either. :chair: To make matters worse this happened before he reinstalled the rear shocks so the car is not even driveable. WTF :ratatat: Any suggestions would be appreciated.

did he by chance pull the release just under the driver side rear seat? that drops both motors from the gear.

can't imagine he did anything else.

does it sound like the motors just spin?

you could first try resetting it. hold the top down button, then turn the car 'on' position for 10 seconds or so.

if that doesn't do it, check the motors behind the lining and make sure they are engaged.

Take it back to him and tell him to fix it.

The car is still at the shop being "worked on". Where exactly is the release lever? BTW the motor does not make any spinning noise. :bang:

DO NOT TAKE IT BACK TO THE SAME IDIOT. WHAT THE HELL FOR.

Raise up a big stink with the service writer, make your intentions nice and loud and in front of other customers. Insist that this same mech. never touch your car again. He is obviously, like most dealership mech., incompitent. Wasteing your time, your money, not to mention the inconvenience. Typical dealerships have at most 2 mech. that really know there stuff. The remainder are interns, waiting to practice on your vehicle.

Was this a dealer, or independant shop or what?

Its an idependent shop that specializes in german cars. Fortunately, I've never had any problems with them in the past 4 yrs until now.

Just picked her up and the soft top was acting weird for a brief moment but now it seems to be ok. I'm taking Gilbert's advice and finding a new independent bmw shop. BTW,the Rogue rsms make a HUGE improvement in the ride quality.
