Pre-wired Garage Door Opener

Well as the title suggest their is a sticker in the trunk that says the car is pre-wired for a garage door opener and mobile phone. I just bought a house with a 2.5 car garage and an opener that has those ancient big brown opener remotes. Anyone here know what this pre-wired thing is and if I can use it instead of the remote from the opener manufacturer? I haven't yet looked throught the manual, but figured someone here has some experience with this. Thanks in advance.

The garage door opener plugs into the harness above the panel where the sunroof switch is. I think it's like eighty bucks at the dealer. When you remove the panel there should be a perferated square that can be cut out with a razor blade. The opener will come with instructions on how to learn the code that your opener uses.
