Can't reset oil light!!! SI battery out?

I was changing my oil and then when I finished, I put the oil reset tool into my car and reseted, but no lights changed. They didn't change back to green or anything. I read the book that came with it(the tool is from BMP) and it says some cars that are 7 years old could have their SI battery dead, and it takes 90 minutes to change it, from start to finish.

    Anyone have any ideas?

E36 Body Stile Does Not Have A Battery For The Si. The Si Is Part Of The Cluster. There Coulb Be Something Wrong With Youre Reset Tool. I Rearly See Clusters Go Out Like That. A Quik Way To Reset The Light Is To Ground Pin 7 On The Diagnostic Conector For Like 12 Sec.

You can get a reset tool from places like bavauto.com.

We have one at the shop for quick clearing air bag lights on E36's and early E39s.

Its like 250 bucks or something.

Yeah, it counts up to 2 and the light isn't back to green. Maybe I'm mistaking it for the inspection light.

Anyways, since you're the master tech here....I have a question about a problem. I unplugged my power wire at the Positive post under my hood. It's the wire on the right side of the positive post box if you're standing at the right fender of the car. I removed it to disconnect accessory lighting that I put in my car, and remove the lights. When I reconnected the wire back to the post, I don't get a door chime or any chime at all when I insert the key into the ignition. What's going on here?

Thats odd. I just took that entire assembly apart the other week to run wires into the cabin, when I reconcted the battery wire back to the positive junction box, all was back to normal. It was just like disconnecting the battery. You sure everything is tight and what not? :hmm:

Yeah, everything's tight and secure and in the right place. I tried running oil inspection reset, check engine reset, and fault code. Still nothing, now when I turn on my car to ACC, I hear a funny noise in my engine bay that I never heard before....it's like an electric motor. It's not very loud but noticeable to distinguish from before.

Maybe I should unplug the main wire on the top of the positive post?
